QUICK REVIEW (with pictures):
Dyrham Park | National Trust | South Gloucestershire

We recently visited National Trust’s (NT) Dyrham Park site. As a NT member, I’ve visited lots of different places in the South of England (read my detailed blog post about my experience as a parent) but what did I think of Dyrham? Well, I’ve not been to a National Trust quite like it!
Here’s my quick review of Dyrham Park:

Location: Dyrham, near Bath, South Gloucestershire, SN14 8HY
Car park: Big car park, no stress to get parked. It is located about a 15+ minute walk from the house, though.

National Trust description: “Ancient parkland, 17th-century house and garden.”
Steph Martin Creative description: “Beautiful house, surrounded by swathes of land, big hills, beautiful gardens and lots for the kids!”
Wonderment rating: 10/10 – lots of surprises throughout the trip. Because of the nature of the landscape, you can’t see everything on your approach to the house, which makes for lovely surprises as you uncover each area.

House: Beautiful to look at, stunning against the backdrop of the countryside. We didn’t actually have time to go in as there was so much to do (it was also mostly closed because of film location work).
Accessibility: 7/10 – it’s a long and hilly walk to get to the house. There’s a bus that runs to the house but not one to the children’s play area and cafe, located on top of a hill. The National Trust website has more detail.
Places to eat: Two: tea-room (daily), cafe (weekend only).
Other facilities: Second-hand bookshop (I found a book with a personal message from 1949!), gift shop.
Kid suitability: 10/10 – the adventure playground was great (prepare for a bit of a hike from the main house, though!). There were also big hills, which many children were rolling down, lots of space to run around and beautiful gardens with a waterfall.
Dog-friendly?: Assistance dogs only.
Return rating: 10/10 would go again, it was lovely.
Cost without a membership: From £10.50 (ages 5-17), from £21 (ages 18+).
You can find out more about Dyrham Park on the National Trust website.
